Michelle Lim, who attended English, Science, Math, General Paper & Economics tuition at Mind Centre, scored
2 A* & 2A's (score of 254) for PSLE, all A's for her GCE 'O' & 'A' Level examinations! She gave this testimony:
"I have been a student at Mind Centre since I was in Primary School, all the way through
Secondary to Junior College. For all the
excellent grades I achieved in PSLE, 'O' Levels and 'A' Levels, I would like to thank the
dedicated teachers at Mind Centre who really helped me to study effectively.
What really helped me were the structured techniques that my teachers taught me for each subject, for example, a step by step method to identify key phrases in English comprehensions. I found that these techniques cut down my revision time greatly - this and advice from my teachers helped me identify the areas I really needed to
focus on in exams."
Congrats to Michelle who is currently a medical undergraduate of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Mathew Loo obtained
A for GP and Chemistry when studying with Mind centre for his GCE A level. His testimonial is:
"Mind centre is dedicated to
getting the best out of students by constantly providing advice and encouraging their students. They are also
very accomodating in terms of the lesson timings in order to help students manage and plan their time better.
Overall, mind centre provides a lot of support to their students."
Matthias Lam scored A* in English, Maths and Science and A in Chinese for his 2015 PSLE. This is his testimony:
"I have been here for sometime now and my grades improved tremendously to A*.
Mr Jonathan Lee makes lessons fun and innovative, making me more eager to learn. He is not monotonous and makes me more often than not want to attend his lessons."
Congrats to Matthias for his excellent PSLE results !
Ng Jing Wen, who studied POA with us, said:
" Mdm Betty Yew has been tutoring me for a few months in the year 2015. She is a patient, motivative and meticulous teacher. I am very thankful that she is my tutor and helped me score an A2 for my Principles of accounts O Levels examination in 2015. Whenever I have problems in my studies, I will always text her and she will always be there helping me through. I doubt I will be able to get this grades without her. I wish her healthy and long life."
Mathangi provided her testimony below:
"The GP lessons by Mr Lim were very important in helping me secure that A for GP. I liked his methodical approach to the various GP discussions. His dedication to the students by striving to provide the latest news is something which helped me learn a lot about latest updates on world happenings-and that is very important in GP. His model essays also helped me a lot in improving my grammatical errors and formulate sophisticated sentences. Mr Lim also provided timely feedback on my work and motivated me that if I put in hard work and focus on themes that I'm strong at, then there wouldn't be any chance of missing that A!"
An sms exchange between teacher Violet and student James Wong who studied English, Chemistry, and Biology with Mindcentre:
Violet: Just so happy you got As for Science n English. I am curious about which topic you did for English and whether you used our descriptive phrases? Did you ? Also if you used the picking line by line technique for summary in order to get more content marks. Or anything else you think you did that helped. It's very few who get As for English throughout Singapore schools. Let me know so we can help more of our current students who are not strong. What you did can help others :) :)
James: I did the descriptive essay and used the picking line technique for summary and also used essay book to get ideas and a back bone on how to write.
Violet: Thanks. Glad the summary technique worked. Good choice of essay :) that was the most important decision you made to do the descriptive essay. Good to hear the essay book helped. Did you use any of Mr Lim n Mind Centre's descriptive phrases from the paper we issue?
James: Yes I used quite a lot … Like titillating tastebuds and more … Like a searing pain ripped through my body.
Sheng Jie, who studied English with us for just
3 months before his
O Level exam (starting August 2015), improved from
D7 to B3 in his English. When asked to share how his tuition helped, he gave the following testimonial:
"Mr. Lim is
a very friendly and engaging tutor. Lessons are
fun and makes learning interesting. The descriptive phrases given to me were
exceptionally useful and together with the strategic lesson approach, I managed to make a breakthrough in my exams to get B3, a remarkable improvement from a D7 in my prelims."
When asked what she thought helped her secure an
A1 for Pure Chem (2015 O Level), Lenice mentioned the following:
"I think what helped me was the way you taught and the
practice! Your funny stories and analogies helped me remember a lot of things! :)"
"I hate math" was a common phrase you would hear me say. I never understood what the point of math was, and being able to grasp all these meaningless mathematical concepts were a challenge for me. I usually always find myself in the lowest band, getting the lowest score in class for math. As much as I would like to say that Math is all about self-practice, I do believe that teachers play an important role in a student's learning process. Sadly, I could sense how my previous tuition teachers were slowly giving up on me, and they made some hurtful remarks that discouraged me deeply, causing me to dislike the subject even more. However,
Mr Low was different. He was always
very patient with me, explaining things over and over again, never once showing any sign of displeasure or annoyance. He helped me and encouraged me, and even when I told him my lousy scores, expecting to get a look of disappointment or disapproval in his face, he still encouraged me and it motivated me to work harder. From a
2 to a 6 was a miracle for me, and I've been
so blessed to be under the care of the teachers and staff of Mind Center."
Andreia Ko, Year 6 International Baccalaureate (IB) 2015 Math student
"I have been attending Math and Science classes at Mind Centre since I was in secondary one and the tutors really helped me to build a strong foundation. Through the years, my interest in these subjects grew and I started to improve. In JC, I attended both Math and Chemistry classes. Both Mr. Low and Mrs. Lim were very helpful and would always be there to guide me through challenging questions. They also helped me reinforce my knowledge and understanding of various concepts. I am very thankful for their help."
Wei Ting achieved As for both Maths and Chemistry in her
2014 'A' Levels.
While under the Integrated Program(IP) track at Hwa Chong Institution, Wei Ting attended tuition at Mind Centre from Sec 1 to JC2. We congratulate her for achieving a place in the NUS Medicine faculty, starting 2015.
I first joined
Mind Centre when I was in Secondary School and continued all through my JC education. I find Mind Centre
a very conducive environment to learn. Classes are conducted in groups where learning can be enhanced through questions raised by students and short discussions held in class. Mind Centre also offers tuition services for a variety of subjects, which provided me great convenience and flexibility in attending classes for different subjects on the same day. Mind Centre also has a team of dedicated teachers who are
knowledgeable in their field of studies. It was easy for me to approach them when I needed to clarify any doubts in my work. I was taught many
valuable techniques for grasping difficult concepts which I continued to apply throughout my University education (e.g.
Mind Mapping). After joining Mind Centre, I've seen significant improvements in grades especially for my A level Economics Paper (from a constant borderline pass to achieving an A for finals). I've enjoyed my years in this Centre and highly recommend other students to join.
Caroline Yap, Degree in Accountancy (Second Upper Class Honors), NTU
(Caroline attended English, Economics & Science tuition at Mind Centre.)
I joined Mind Centre when I was in Junior College taking tuition for Economics, Math and my General Paper. Within a span of 2 months I've managed to achieve a B for Econs, improved from C to an A for Maths and improved from an E to a C for my General paper.
Mind Centre not only focuses on exam results but also
guides us through the actual learning process. Not only were the classes interactive, they have helped me tremendously to improve on my subjects. Classes are conducted in small groups where the tutor tries to engage each and every individual and keep up with their progress in class. The tutors update us about current knowledge as well as a lot of side reading, apart from just tackling exam questions. This allows the lessons to be very interesting and helps us want to understand the subjects even more. Overall, its methods of teaching are effective, efficient and most importantly, enjoyable. I would not hesitate to recommend this centre to my friends!
Ivan Lim, Degree in Accounting & Finance (Honors), University of London
(Ivan attended General Paper, Math & Economics tuition at Mind Centre.)
When asked by her tutor, Mrs. Lim, to share what she thought helped her make that big improvement, Xin Quan stated the following:
"I think you've helped me
strengthen my basic concepts and you kept repeating some of the things in lessons for example keep on asking the same questions I think it made memorising easier. And I feel that the studyguide book was a great help too and that you kept on referring back to it made me become more familiar with the facts and improved my self study since I know where are the facts."
Xin Quan, 2014 GCE 'O' Levels
Congratulations Xin Quan!
Xin Quan improved from a C6 to an A2 for her 'O' Level Pure Chemistry. She articulated a key 1st step in our Mind Centre method which is the clarifying of concepts using a Question & Answer method by a good tutor who is able to ask the right questions and point out key concepts to students from a good studyguide containing all the required chapters. This helps students who feel challenged by the subject to gain confidence. Thereafter, students are asked to work through many good questions which have good solutions provided, followed by a short test to ascertain their level of mastery of the topic. As a result, they gain victory over the subject.
"Being under the guidance of Mr. Quek has allowed me to not only understand Economics better, but also to build an interest in it.
Mr. Quek is a very friendly and approachable tutor who puts his best in ensuring that his students are
well prepared. He goes beyond classroom teachings by sharing situations around the world. This allowed me to have a
more realistic and global perspective of Economics which benefits me as a current NUS Business undergraduate. With students' hard work and Mr. Quek's guidance, acing the 'A' level Economics paper is definitely possible!
Brenda Wong, 2011 GCE 'A Levels, VJC, who improved from E to A for her 'A' Level Economics
She is currently in Year 3 of NUS Business School
Our GP tutor,
Mr Lim, conducts very engaging GP lessons which have secured very good feedback from students. When asked to share how he improved his GP with Mr Lim's guidance to clinch an A for his 2014 'A' Levels, Benedict Lee stated the following:
" I believe that the best way to improve in GP is to actively participate in Mr Lim's GP lesson. Mr Lim also often provides useful statistics which I consistently try to use while writing short paragraphs on topics tht I am interested in. It is also important to challenge any of Mr Lim's arguments which one disagrees in and to be able to
delve further into the topic and understand better the elaborations behind each argument.
Congrats to Benedict Lee for achieving an A for your 2014 GCE 'A' Levels GP examination!
"Before joining Mind Centre, I was very weak in Chemistry, scoring a U grade in the promotional exam in JC1. However, under the tutelage of Mrs. Lim and her use of mind maps and memory aids, I managed to better understand the harder topics. Furthermore, lessons conducted at Mind Centre are not only interesting and informative but are also done in small groups, ensuring that the teacher is able to keep track of our progress.
All of this eventually allowed me to improve by leaps and bounds, scoring a B in my prelims and finally an A in my 'A' Levels. In short. my experience at Mind Centre was a fun and good one, and I would definitely recommend others to join."
Leon Goh, 2014 GCE 'A' Levels, NYJC who improved from U to A for his 'A' Level Chemistry
